Possible Causes
Defective defrost heater, Faulty defrost sensor, Door gasket leaking warm moist air, Frequent door openings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before defrosting or accessing internal components.
Steps to address frost buildup:
- Manual defrost: Turn off and unplug the unit. Leave the door open and place towels to catch water. Allow all ice to melt completely.
- Inspect gasket: Ensure the door gasket seals properly to prevent moist air ingress.
- Check defrost components: If frost returns quickly, access the evaporator and test the defrost heater and sensor for continuity and correct resistance. Replace faulty parts with SMEG-specified components.
- Control board: If heater and sensor are good but defrost cycles do not occur, the main control PCB may not be initiating defrost and may need replacement.
Warning: Do not chip ice with sharp tools; this can puncture the evaporator and cause irreparable damage.
