Possible Causes
Faulty cabinet NTC temperature sensor, Control PCB not regulating compressor correctly, Sensor not properly positioned on evaporator or wall
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing interior panels or sensors.
Steps to correct overcooling:
- Verify with a thermometer: Place an accurate thermometer inside and compare actual temperature to the display. If actual is much lower, suspect sensor or control issues.
- Inspect sensor placement: Access the interior rear panel and locate the cabinet sensor. Ensure it is properly clipped in place and not touching extremely cold metal surfaces directly unless designed to.
- Test and replace sensor: Measure sensor resistance and compare to expected values. Replace the SMEG cabinet NTC sensor if readings are out of range.
- Control board replacement: If a new sensor does not resolve the issue, the main control PCB may be misregulating the compressor and should be replaced.
Interim measure: Raise the set temperature slightly to protect wine until the fault is corrected.
