Possible Causes
Control stuck in defrost mode, Faulty defrost sensor feedback, Defective defrost heater (if equipped), Main PCB defrost logic error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the evaporator area or control board.
Steps to address dF:
- 1. Allow a full cycle: Some STAIGIS models briefly display dF during a normal defrost cycle. Wait 30–60 minutes to see if the code clears and cooling resumes.
- 2. Check for heavy frost: If the rear interior panel is heavily frosted, remove shelves and the panel to inspect the evaporator. Excess frost suggests a defrost failure.
- 3. Test defrost sensor and heater: With power disconnected, measure resistance of the defrost sensor and heater (if present). Replace any open or shorted components with OEM "STAIGIS defrost sensor" or "defrost heater" parts.
- 4. Manual defrost: Unplug the unit and allow it to defrost completely for 12–24 hours. Wipe up water and ensure the drain channel is clear.
- 5. Reset control: After defrosting and any part replacement, plug the unit back in and monitor operation. If dF remains constantly displayed, the main control board may be stuck and require replacement.
Warning: Do not bypass defrost safety devices. If unsure, consult a professional.
