Possible Causes

Failed cabinet NTC thermistor, Loose or oxidized sensor connector on main control board, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Main PCB misreading sensor signal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the STAIGIS wine cooler from the wall outlet before removing any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is energized.

Steps to check and address E1:

  • 1. Power reset: Unplug the cooler for 5–10 minutes, then plug it back in. If E1 clears and does not return, it may have been a temporary logic error.
  • 2. Access the temperature sensor: Open the cabinet and locate the small sensor probe (NTC) usually clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the rear interior wall. On many STAIGIS models it is a small plastic-tipped probe with two thin wires leading to the control area.
  • 3. Inspect wiring and connector: Follow the sensor wires to the top or rear where they connect to the main control board. Check for loose plugs, corrosion, or damaged insulation. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • 4. Test the sensor (if you have a multimeter): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the board and measure its resistance. At room temperature (around 77°F / 25°C), most STAIGIS NTC sensors read roughly 5–10 kΩ. If it reads open (infinite) or shorted (near 0 Ω), the sensor is bad.
  • 5. Replace the sensor: If faulty, order a compatible "STAIGIS cabinet NTC temperature sensor" for your exact model. Remove the old sensor clip or bracket, route the new sensor along the same path, and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges. Plug it into the same connector on the main PCB.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall any covers, plug the unit back in, and verify that E1 is cleared and the temperature display responds normally.

When to call a technician: If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control board may be defective and should be diagnosed or replaced by a qualified technician.
