Display shows E2 and the wine cooler does not reach the set temperature or cycles erratically.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening any panels. Sharp metal edges may be present around the evaporator cover.
Steps to address E2:
- 1. Power cycle: Unplug the cooler for 5–10 minutes and plug it back in. If E2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
- 2. Locate the evaporator sensor: The evaporator NTC is typically behind the interior rear panel (evaporator cover) in STAIGIS wine coolers. Remove interior shelves, then remove the screws holding the rear plastic or metal panel.
- 3. Inspect sensor placement: The sensor should be clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing. If it has fallen off or is hanging loose, reattach it firmly using the original clip or aluminum tape so it makes good contact with the coil.
- 4. Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires through the cabinet to the control board area. Look for cuts, pinches, or signs of moisture damage. Reseat the connector on the main PCB.
- 5. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the expected NTC value at the current temperature (often 5–10 kΩ at room temperature). Replace the sensor if it reads open or shorted.
- 6. Replace if needed: Install a new "STAIGIS evaporator NTC sensor" for your model, routing the harness along the original path and securing it away from the fan blades.
When to seek service: If the sensor and wiring are good but E2 persists, the main control board may be defective and should be evaluated by a professional.
