Display shows E6 and the internal fan does not run or runs intermittently, causing uneven temperatures.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the interior fan. Beware of sharp metal edges and ice.
Steps to address E6:
- 1. Verify fan operation: With the door closed and unit running, you should normally hear a small fan inside. If silent, proceed with inspection.
- 2. Access the evaporator fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- 3. Check for obstructions: Look for ice buildup or foreign objects blocking the fan blades. If iced over, defrost the unit completely by unplugging it and leaving the door open for several hours.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is firmly seated in the harness. Look for damaged wires or corroded terminals.
- 5. Test the fan motor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If you have a suitable low-voltage DC source (for DC fans), you can briefly power the fan to confirm operation.
- 6. Replace the fan motor: Install a new "STAIGIS evaporator fan motor" that matches your model. Transfer any mounting brackets or grommets, secure the fan, and ensure blades spin freely.
Note: If the fan tests good but does not receive voltage when the compressor is running, the main control board may be defective and should be checked by a technician.
