Possible Causes

Blocked condenser airflow, Severely dirty condenser coil, Failed condenser fan motor, High ambient temperature around built‑in installation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before cleaning or accessing the condenser area. The condenser and compressor can be hot.

Step 1 – Improve ventilation

  • Verify that the installation meets Sub‑Zero clearance requirements for built‑in units.
  • Ensure front and rear ventilation grilles are not blocked by cabinetry, rugs, or stored items.

Step 2 – Clean condenser coil

  • Remove the lower grille or rear access panel to expose the condenser.
  • Use a soft brush and vacuum to thoroughly clean dust and lint from the coil fins.
  • Do not bend the fins; straighten any that are crushed using a fin comb if available.

Step 3 – Check condenser fan operation

  • Restore power and observe the condenser fan while the compressor is running.
  • If the fan does not run, runs slowly, or is noisy, the condenser fan motor may be failing.
  • With power OFF, spin the fan blade by hand; it should move freely.
  • Replace the condenser fan motor if seized or noisy.

Step 4 – Reset and monitor

  • After cleaning and any repairs, power cycle the unit to clear EC20.
  • Monitor operation for several hours to ensure the error does not return and the cabinet temperature stabilizes.

Note: If EC20 returns despite clean coils and a good fan, there may be a sealed system issue (overcharge, restriction) requiring a certified refrigeration technician.
