Possible Causes

Failed evaporator NTC thermistor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness from evaporator to control board, Faulty main control board sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Evaporator area may have sharp metal edges; wear cut‑resistant gloves.

  • Access the evaporator compartment: Remove interior shelves and the rear inner panel inside the cabinet (usually held by screws). This exposes the evaporator coil and fan.
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: Look for a small probe or bullet‑style sensor clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing, with two thin wires leading to the cabinet wall.
  • Check mounting and condition: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose. If it has fallen off, reattach using aluminum tape or the original clip so it makes good thermal contact.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to where they enter the cabinet wall. Look for nicks, cuts, or signs of moisture damage. Repair any damaged insulation and ensure the grommet is sealed.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor at the control board end and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to expected NTC values (typically several kΩ at room temperature). An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace if defective: Install a new Summit evaporator temperature sensor (NTC), securing it tightly to the evaporator coil. Route wiring away from the fan blades.
  • If sensor is OK: Inspect and, if necessary, replace the main control board if E2 persists.
