Wine cooler display shows E5 and unit may shut down or run erratically.

Safety: Disconnect power before touching the compressor or electrical components. The compressor can be very hot.

• Check ventilation: Ensure the Summit wine cooler has the required clearance per the manual (typically several inches at rear and sides). Remove dust from rear grille and condenser coils with a soft brush and vacuum.
• Ambient temperature: Verify the unit is not installed in a location above the specified ambient range (often 50–90°F). Relocate if necessary.
• Inspect compressor area: Remove the rear lower service panel. Look at the compressor, start relay, and overload protector for signs of burning or melting.
• Test overload protector: With power off, disconnect the overload from the compressor and check continuity with a multimeter. Replace the compressor overload protector if open when cool.
• Allow cooling: If the compressor is extremely hot, allow it to cool for 30–60 minutes, then restore power and see if E5 clears.
• Control board: If ventilation and overload are fine but E5 persists, the main control board may be misreading compressor current and may need replacement. A sealed‑system technician should also check for high head pressure or refrigerant issues.
