Possible Causes

Failed PTC start relay on compressor, Loose relay connection, Overheated or locked compressor, Faulty main control board compressor output

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler. The compressor circuit carries mains voltage.

  • Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor and electrical components.
  • Inspect start relay: The PTC relay is attached to the compressor terminals. Look for discoloration, cracking, or burnt odor.
  • Check connections: Ensure the relay is firmly seated on the compressor pins and that the wiring harness is tight.
  • Test relay: With the relay removed, shake it gently; if it rattles or pieces fall out, it is likely bad. You can also measure resistance across its terminals; an open circuit often indicates failure.
  • Replace relay: Install a new Summit‑compatible compressor start relay/PTC matched to your compressor model.
  • Compressor condition: If a new relay does not resolve E8 and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor may be locked and require sealed‑system service.
  • Control board: If the compressor never receives power, the main control board may be defective.
