Possible Causes
Failed defrost heater, Defective defrost sensor or thermostat, Faulty defrost control on main board, Door gasket leaks allowing moist air in
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Water will drip during defrost; protect flooring.
- Manual defrost: Remove all bottles and shelves. Leave the door open and allow all ice to melt. Use towels to absorb water. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
- Inspect door gasket: Replace the door gasket if it is torn or not sealing, as warm moist air causes frost.
- Test defrost heater: Access the evaporator and measure heater resistance. Replace the defrost heater if open.
- Check defrost sensor/thermostat: Test continuity or resistance at cold temperatures. Replace the defrost sensor if it does not change as expected.
- Control board: If heater and sensor are good but frost returns quickly, the main control board may not be initiating defrost and should be replaced.
