Possible Causes
Defective compressor start relay, Failed PTC starter, Open overload protector, High compressor current draw or locked rotor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the compressor compartment. Capacitors can retain charge; avoid contact with terminals.
- Access the compressor area: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and overload protector.
- Listen for clicking: When powered (briefly), a repeated clicking from the compressor area suggests the overload is tripping. Disconnect power again before proceeding.
- Inspect start components: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the PTC relay and overload protector for signs of burning, cracking, or melting.
- Test continuity: With a multimeter, test the overload protector for continuity. Replace if open. Test the PTC relay for appropriate resistance (not open or shorted). If in doubt, replace with a Teka-compatible compressor start device set.
- Check compressor windings: Measure resistance between the three compressor pins (C, S, R). All readings should be finite and not shorted to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is likely defective.
- Replace faulty parts: Install new start relay/PTC and overload protector if they test bad. Ensure all connections are tight and the cover is reinstalled.
- Professional service for compressor: If the compressor windings are faulty or the unit still trips after start components are replaced, the compressor may be seized and requires replacement by a refrigeration technician.
