Possible Causes
Overheated compressor due to dirty condenser, Failed condenser fan, High ambient temperature and poor ventilation, Failing compressor drawing excessive current, Faulty overload protector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the compressor compartment. Components may be hot; allow time to cool.
Steps:
- Ventilation check: Ensure the wine cooler has proper clearance around the sides and rear per Thermador installation instructions. Remove any obstructions.
- Clean condenser: Remove toe-kick or rear panel and clean dust from condenser coils with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Verify condenser fan: Confirm the fan runs when the compressor is energized. Replace the fan motor if it does not run and has proper voltage.
- Overload device: Inspect the compressor start/overload device for signs of overheating or burning. Replace if damaged.
- Monitor operation: After cleaning and component checks, restore power and monitor compressor run time and temperature. If E16 recurs, the compressor may be failing and require professional replacement.
