Wine cooler shows E2 and may run continuously or shut down cooling intermittently.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect power before removing toe-kick or control panels. Sharp metal edges may be present; wear cut-resistant gloves.
How to address E2:
- Confirm environment: Ensure the wine cooler is installed within the recommended ambient temperature range (typically 50–100°F / 10–38°C). Extreme ambient conditions can confuse sensor readings.
- Access ambient sensor: On many Thermador models, the ambient sensor is located near the front grille or control housing. Remove the toe-kick grille or upper trim to locate a small probe or plastic sensor housing.
- Inspect and reseat: Check for broken insulation, pinched wires, or loose connectors. Reseat the sensor plug at both ends.
- Measure resistance: With power off, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the Thermador NTC chart. Replace the sensor if readings are open, shorted, or out of range.
- Evaluate control board: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control board may not be interpreting the signal correctly. Inspect for burn marks or corrosion and replace the board if necessary.
Note: An ambient sensor fault can cause incorrect compressor run times, leading to poor temperature stability.
