Wine cooler shows E6 and may not cool; compressor may not start.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: Work on the compressor and inverter area only with power disconnected. Do not attempt sealed system repairs (refrigerant handling) unless you are EPA-certified.
Steps:
- Listen for operation: After restoring power, listen for compressor start attempts or clicking. Then disconnect power again before proceeding.
- Access rear compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, inverter (if equipped), and control board.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the main control to the inverter/compressor for loose plugs, damaged insulation, or burn marks. Reseat all connectors.
- Inverter module check: On inverter models, visually inspect the inverter board for burnt components. If damaged, replace the inverter module.
- Compressor test (basic): With power off and inverter disconnected, measure compressor winding resistance between pins. All windings should show similar, finite resistance and no continuity to ground. Abnormal readings suggest a failed compressor (requires professional replacement).
- Main control: If wiring and compressor/inverter appear normal, the main control board may not be sending proper signals and should be replaced.
When to call a technician: If E6 persists after checking connections, or if compressor or inverter failure is suspected, contact an authorized Thermador service provider.
