How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before defrosting or accessing the evaporator. Do not use sharp tools to remove ice.
Steps:
- Manual defrost: Remove all bottles, unplug the unit, and allow ice to melt with towels in place. This may take several hours.
- Inspect gasket: Check the door gasket for tears or gaps. Replace if damaged.
- Test defrost heater: After ice is removed, access the evaporator and test heater resistance. Replace if open.
- Check defrost sensor: Test the defrost sensor/thermostat for proper resistance or continuity at the appropriate temperature. Replace if faulty.
- Control board: If heater and sensor are good, the main control board may not be initiating defrost and should be replaced.
