Possible Causes

Failed lower cabinet NTC probe, Broken or pinched sensor harness in cabinet wall, Oxidized connector at main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the wine cabinet from mains power before opening any panels.

Diagnostic and repair steps:

  • Confirm the zone: Verify that the E2 code corresponds to the lower compartment on your specific Transtherm model (check user manual if available).
  • Access the lower sensor: Remove lower shelves and locate the sensor cover on the rear wall of the lower zone. Gently remove the cover to expose the NTC probe.
  • Visual inspection: Check the sensor body and cable for damage, kinks, or signs of water ingress. Dry any condensation and ensure the probe is fully seated in its well.
  • Check harness routing: From the rear or underside service panel, trace the lower sensor harness to the control board. Look for pinched or abraded insulation where the cable passes through foam or metal openings.
  • Test resistance: With the cabinet unplugged, disconnect the lower sensor from the board and measure resistance. Compare to the upper sensor or to typical NTC values (5–20 kΩ at room temperature). Replace if open or shorted.
  • Replace the sensor: Install a new Transtherm lower cabinet NTC temperature sensor if the original is defective. Follow the original routing and secure the cable to prevent vibration damage.
  • Reassemble and power up: Refit all panels and shelves, restore power, and allow the unit to run. The E2 code should clear once the control detects a valid sensor signal.

Note: If both E1 and E2 appear intermittently, suspect a control board or common harness issue rather than individual sensors.
