Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Fan blade obstructed by ice or wiring, Loose fan connector at control board, Faulty fan driver circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the interior fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp.
Procedure:
- Check for airflow: With the unit briefly powered (before disassembly), listen for the evaporator fan when the compressor is running. If silent, unplug and continue.
- Access fan: Remove the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- Inspect fan: Check if the fan blade spins freely by hand. Remove any ice, wiring, or insulation obstructing the blade.
- Check wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is firmly attached and wires are not damaged.
- Test motor: If you have a multimeter, check for continuity across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace fan motor: Install a new Transtherm evaporator fan motor if the original is seized or electrically open. Transfer the fan blade if necessary and ensure correct rotation direction.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the panel, restore power, and verify that E8 clears and airflow is restored.
Note: If the fan tests good but does not receive voltage when commanded, the main control board may be at fault.
