Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the fan. Beware of sharp fins on the evaporator coil.
Steps to check and fix:
- 1. Listen and observe: With the unit briefly powered (before unplugging), note whether the fan attempts to start or is completely silent. Then unplug the unit.
- 2. Access the fan: Remove the internal rear panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly. Check for ice buildup around the fan housing.
- 3. Clear obstructions: If ice is present, fully defrost the unit by leaving it off with doors open until all ice melts. Do not use sharp tools. Ensure the fan blades spin freely by hand.
- 4. Check wiring: Inspect the fan motor wires and connector for damage or loose fit. Reseat the connector on both the fan and PCB ends.
- 5. Test the fan motor: With the fan disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure motor winding resistance (for DC fans, check for a few tens to hundreds of ohms between power pins). An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Alternatively, briefly power the fan with a suitable low-voltage DC supply if you are qualified to do so.
- 6. Replace the fan motor: Unscrew or unclip the fan assembly, transfer the fan blade if necessary, and install a new Vestfrost-compatible evaporator fan motor. Ensure correct airflow direction (usually blowing across the evaporator into the cabinet).
- 7. Reassemble and test: Refit panels, restore power, and verify that the fan runs and the E6 code clears.
- 8. PCB diagnosis: If a new fan does not run and E6 remains, the main control PCB may have a failed fan driver and should be checked by a technician.
