Wine cooler displays E2 and may run continuously or not cool correctly.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the wine cooler before removing interior panels or touching wiring. Use cut‑resistant gloves when working near metal panels and coils.
Steps to diagnose and correct:
- 1. Power cycle: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then restore power. If E2 reappears, proceed.
- 2. Access the evaporator area: Remove interior shelves and the rear evaporator cover panel inside the cabinet (usually held by Phillips screws). Carefully pull the panel forward to expose the evaporator coil.
- 3. Locate the defrost/evaporator sensor: It is typically clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in foam near the coil. Verify it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Look for broken insulation, corrosion at connectors, or signs of ice damage. Reseat the connector at the sensor and at the main control board.
- 5. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the Viking NTC temperature/resistance chart. Replace the sensor if it reads open, shorted, or far out of spec.
- 6. Reattach or reposition sensor: If the sensor has slipped off the coil, reclip it firmly to the same location to ensure accurate evaporator temperature sensing.
- 7. If sensor and wiring are good: The main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly. Replacement of the board is recommended by a professional.
Note: After replacing the sensor, clear the error by disconnecting power for several minutes, then verify normal operation and absence of E2.
