Possible Causes
Failed magnetic reed door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken or pinched door switch wiring, Faulty main control board door input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any trim or accessing wiring around the door frame.
Steps to resolve:
- 1. Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket is not obstructed by shelves, bottles, or warped trim. A door that does not seal can trigger a door-ajar error.
- 2. Inspect door magnet and switch: On many Viking wine coolers, a magnet in the door aligns with a reed switch in the cabinet frame. Verify the magnet is present and not loose. Locate the switch in the frame (often behind a small plastic cover).
- 3. Test the switch (basic): With power restored briefly, open and close the door while watching the interior light and listening for the alarm. If the light or alarm does not respond to door movement, the switch may be faulty.
- 4. Test the switch (advanced): Unplug the unit, remove the switch from the frame, and test continuity with a multimeter while placing a magnet near the switch. Replace if it does not open/close properly.
- 5. Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the switch to the control board for damage, especially where it passes through the cabinet.
- 6. Replace defective parts: Install a new door switch or magnet as needed, ensuring correct alignment so the switch changes state when the door is fully closed.
- 7. Control board check: If the switch and wiring are good but E9 persists, the main control board may not be reading the door input correctly and may require replacement.
After repair: Restore power, close the door, and verify that the alarm stops and E9 clears after a power cycle.
