Possible Causes
Shorted or misreading cabinet temperature sensor, Stuck compressor relay on main control board, Miscalibrated control board, Sensor not properly mounted to liner
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing sensors or the control board.
Steps to correct:
- 1. Verify setpoint: Ensure the temperature is not set below recommended levels for wine storage.
- 2. Check sensor placement: Locate the cabinet sensor and confirm it is properly mounted against the liner or in its designated well. A sensor hanging in free air can misread temperature.
- 3. Test sensor: With power disconnected, measure resistance of the sensor and compare to Viking’s NTC chart. Replace if readings are abnormally low (indicating it thinks it is warmer than it is).
- 4. Observe compressor cycling: After restoring power, monitor whether the compressor ever shuts off. If it runs nearly continuously despite low cabinet temperature, the control board relay may be stuck and the board should be replaced.
Temporary measure: Until repaired, raise the setpoint and move sensitive bottles to another storage location.
