How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges may be present.

Steps to address E2 (evaporator sensor):

  • 1. Defrost the unit: If there is heavy frost on the evaporator, unplug the cooler and leave the door open for several hours or until all ice melts. Place towels to catch water. After defrosting, plug back in to see if E2 clears. If not, continue.
  • 2. Access the evaporator compartment: Remove the interior rear panel inside the cabinet (usually held by screws). Behind it you will see the evaporator coil and fan. The evaporator thermistor is typically clipped to the coil or mounted nearby.
  • 3. Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for a broken sensor body, cracked insulation, or wires pulled tight or cut by ice. Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the evaporator coil where designed.
  • 4. Test the thermistor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the harness or control board and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Vinotemp specifications at the measured temperature. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of spec.
  • 5. Replace the evaporator thermistor: Install a Vinotemp-compatible evaporator sensor. Clip it securely to the coil in the original location for accurate readings. Route wires away from the fan blades and sharp fins.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel, restore power, and monitor for 15–30 minutes. The E2 code should clear if the sensor and wiring are correct.

Note: Persistent E2 with a known-good sensor often indicates a defective main control board.
