Possible Causes
Failed zone thermistor, Broken inter-zone communication harness, Faulty dual-zone control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening any interior or rear panels.
Steps to address E6 on dual-zone models:
- 1. Identify affected zone: Check which zone (upper or lower) is not cooling or displaying correctly. Note any additional codes (E1–E3) that may point to a specific sensor.
- 2. Inspect zone divider and wiring: On dual-zone Vinotemp units, a harness often runs between zones through the divider wall. Remove interior trim as needed and inspect for pinched or broken wires.
- 3. Test zone thermistors: Locate each zone's cabinet thermistor and measure resistance. Compare to spec. Replace any sensor that is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- 4. Check connectors at control board: Ensure each zone's sensor and fan connectors are firmly seated on the board and labeled correctly (UPPER/LOWER).
- 5. Replace control board if needed: If wiring and sensors are good but E6 persists, the dual-zone control board may be defective and require replacement with the correct Vinotemp part.
Tip: Label all connectors and take photos before removing the board to ensure correct reassembly.
