Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Fan blade obstructed by ice or wiring, Faulty fan driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the interior fan. Fan blades can be sharp.
Steps to fix E9 (fan fault):
- 1. Access the interior fan: Remove the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- 2. Check for obstructions: Look for ice buildup, loose wires, or insulation blocking the fan blades. Clear any obstructions and ensure the fan spins freely by hand.
- 3. Test the fan motor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- 4. Apply test voltage (advanced): If you are experienced and have a suitable low-voltage DC supply (for DC fans), briefly power the fan to confirm operation. Do not exceed rated voltage.
- 5. Replace the fan motor: Install a Vinotemp-compatible evaporator or interior circulation fan. Ensure the fan is oriented correctly for airflow and that wires are secured away from the blades.
- 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and verify that the fan runs when the compressor or cooling module is active. The E9 code should clear.
Note: If the fan tests good but does not receive power, the control board fan driver may be defective.
