Possible Causes
Failed condenser fan motor, Obstructed condenser fan blade, Loose or broken fan wiring, Faulty main control board fan output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near the condenser fan and compressor.
Steps:
- Access condenser fan: Remove the rear lower access panel. The condenser fan is located near the compressor and condenser coil.
- Visual inspection: Check if debris, dust, or wiring is blocking the fan blade. Spin the blade by hand; it should turn freely without grinding.
- Check for operation: With the panel off, briefly restore power and observe whether the fan starts when the compressor runs. Disconnect power again before touching anything.
- Test motor: With power off, measure resistance across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the fan connector is fully seated on the harness and that there are no broken wires.
- Replace condenser fan motor: Remove mounting screws, transfer the fan blade to the new Whirlpool-compatible motor, and reinstall. Reconnect wiring securely.
- Control board check: If the motor tests good but never receives voltage when the compressor runs, the main control board fan output may be defective and require replacement.
Tip: Clean the condenser coil with a soft brush or vacuum while you have access; a clean coil improves cooling efficiency.
