Possible Causes

Stuck-closed temperature relay on control board, Shorted thermistor reading too warm, Control board logic failure, Incorrect temperature setting or mode

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the control board or sensors.

Steps:

  • Verify set temperature: Confirm that the setpoint is appropriate for wine storage (typically 45–65°F depending on zone).
  • Check thermistor readings: Place a thermometer inside and compare to the displayed temperature. If the display shows warmer than actual, the thermistor may be shorted.
  • Inspect thermistor wiring: Access the cabinet thermistor and check for pinched or damaged wires that could cause a short.
  • Test thermistor: Disconnect and measure resistance. A very low resistance at a cool temperature suggests a shorted sensor; replace with a Whirlpool-compatible thermistor.
  • Control board relay: If the compressor runs continuously even when the set temperature is reached and the sensor is good, the compressor relay on the main control board may be stuck closed. Replace the main control board.
  • Protect wine: Until repaired, move valuable bottles to another properly controlled storage to avoid damage from overchilling.
