Display shows E3 and the wine cooler may run continuously or shut off prematurely.

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any exterior or interior panels.

How to troubleshoot E3:

• Confirm installation environment: Ensure the cooler is not installed in direct sunlight, near ovens, or in unconditioned spaces outside the specified ambient temperature range. Extreme ambient conditions can trigger sensor-related errors.
• Locate the ambient sensor: On many Whynter models, the ambient sensor is near the front grille or air intake, behind the kick plate or front trim.
• Remove the kick plate: Take off the lower front grille (usually a few screws). Look for a small probe or plastic-encased sensor with two wires.
• Inspect and reseat connections: Check that the sensor is intact and its connector at the control board is firmly seated. Clean any dust or debris around the sensor.
• Test the sensor: Disconnect and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to expected NTC values or to another known-good sensor if available. Replace if open/shorted.
• Replace if faulty: Install a compatible Whynter ambient temperature sensor, secure it in the original location, and reconnect to the board.
• Power up and verify: Restore power and confirm that E3 clears and the unit cycles normally over several hours.

Call a technician if the sensor tests good but the error persists, as the control board may be defective.
