Possible Causes
Failed magnetic reed switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty door sensor input on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before working around the door frame or control wiring.
Steps to address E7:
- Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket is not obstructed. A partially open door can cause the controller to misread the door status.
- Locate the door switch: On many Whynter models, the door sensor is a magnetic reed switch embedded in the cabinet frame, with a corresponding magnet in the door.
- Test the switch: With the unit unplugged, remove the inner trim near the switch location and expose the switch. Use a multimeter to check continuity while moving a magnet near the switch. It should open/close reliably.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the switch wires back to the control board. Look for pinched or broken wires, especially near hinge areas.
- Adjust or replace magnet: If the magnet in the door is loose or missing, re-secure or replace it so it aligns directly with the reed switch when the door is closed.
- Replace faulty switch: Install a Whynter-compatible door switch if the original does not change state properly.
After repair: Restore power and confirm that the interior light and fans respond correctly to door opening/closing and that E7 is cleared.
