Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness near evaporator, Corroded connector at main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before removing rear or internal panels. Evaporator fins can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.
Steps:
- Access the evaporator: On most Zanussi wine coolers, the evaporator is behind the internal rear panel or behind the rear external panel. Remove shelves and the inner back panel (inside the cabinet) or the rear service panel (outside) depending on design.
- Locate the evaporator NTC: Look for a small probe clipped or taped to the evaporator coil or embedded in a small plastic housing attached to the coil.
- Inspect placement: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface. If it has fallen away, reattach using the original clip or aluminum tape rated for refrigeration use.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the main harness. Look for chafing, ice damage, or corrosion at connectors. Repair any damaged insulation and reseat connectors.
- Measure resistance: With the unit still unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the cabinet NTC values at similar temperature (typically 5–20 kΩ at room temperature). A reading of OL or 0 Ω indicates failure.
- Replace sensor if faulty: Install a Zanussi-compatible evaporator NTC. Route the cable along the original path, away from the fan blades and sharp metal edges, and secure with cable ties.
- Reassemble and test: Refit panels, restore power, and allow the cooler to run for several hours. Confirm that E2 does not reappear and that the unit cycles normally.
Note: Persistent E2 with a known-good sensor may indicate a defective main control board.
