Possible Causes

Failed DC outdoor fan motor, Blocked or jammed fan blade, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty outdoor PCB fan drive circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the outdoor disconnect. The fan can start unexpectedly; never work with power on.

  • Check for obstructions: Look through the top grille and ensure no debris, ice, or foreign objects are blocking the fan. Remove any obstructions.
  • Spin test: With power off, gently spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
  • Inspect wiring: Open the outdoor control box and verify the fan motor connector is fully seated on the PCB. Check for burnt pins or melted plastic.
  • Visual motor check: Look for oil leakage, cracked housing, or discoloration on the fan motor.
  • Test run: Restore power and observe if the fan starts smoothly. If E7 returns and the fan does not run or runs in short bursts, the motor or PCB is likely faulty.
  • Component replacement: Replace the outdoor fan motor first in most cases. If a new motor does not resolve E7, the outdoor PCB fan drive circuit is likely defective and requires replacement by a technician.
