Loud rattling or vibrating noise from the indoor unit during operation
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Loose indoor unit mounting plate or screws, Blower wheel out of balance due to dirt, Loose front panel or filter, Refrigerant pipes touching wall or chassis
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before tightening screws or touching moving parts.
- Check mounting: Gently push on the indoor unit. Excessive movement indicates loose mounting. Tighten wall bracket screws and ensure the unit is properly latched onto the bracket.
- Secure panels: Ensure the front panel is fully closed and all latches are engaged. Reinstall filters correctly.
- Clean blower: If accessible, clean dust from the blower wheel blades to restore balance.
- Pipe contact: Listen for vibration where refrigerant pipes pass through the wall. If they are touching the wall, add foam padding or insulation to prevent rattling.
- Persistent noise: If noise continues, the blower wheel or motor bearings may be worn and should be inspected by a technician.
