Normal Condensation or Insulation Failure
Water dripping from the outdoor unit or piping during cooling operation
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Normal condensate from outdoor coil, Poorly insulated suction line sweating, Incorrect drain routing from indoor unit to outdoor area
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Be cautious of slippery surfaces around the outdoor unit.
- Identify source: Determine if water is coming from the outdoor coil area (often normal) or from refrigerant piping/indoor drain outlet.
- Check pipe insulation: If the larger copper line (suction line) is sweating and dripping indoors or on walls, its insulation may be damaged. Replace or wrap with closed-cell insulation.
- Verify drain termination: Ensure the indoor drain hose terminates in an appropriate location where water can safely drain away.
- Normal operation: Some water dripping from the outdoor unit in cooling is normal, especially in humid climates.
