Possible Causes
Open or shorted room temperature thermistor, Disconnected sensor harness, Sensor not properly located in return air stream, Faulty indoor PCB sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the indoor unit at the breaker.
Steps to check:
- 1. Locate room sensor: On many Goodman mini-splits, the room thermistor is behind the front grille near the air intake. Carefully remove the cover to access it.
- 2. Inspect wiring: Ensure the thermistor leads are intact and the connector is firmly plugged into the PCB.
- 3. Check sensor placement: The sensor should be in the return air path, not touching metal surfaces that could skew readings. Reposition if necessary.
- 4. Replace sensor if damaged: If the sensor is physically damaged or corroded, replace it with a Goodman-compatible room thermistor.
When to call a professional: If a new sensor does not resolve F1, the indoor PCB may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
