If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the indoor unit at the breaker. Confirm power is off before reaching into the blower compartment.
Steps to check:
- 1. Thermostat fan test: Set the thermostat fan mode to ON. If the blower does not start, the issue is likely in the indoor unit.
- 2. Inspect blower compartment: Remove the blower door on the Goodman furnace/air handler. Look for ice on the coil (which can block airflow) and signs of water leakage.
- 3. Check blower wheel: Spin the blower wheel by hand. It should move freely. If seized, the motor bearings may have failed.
- 4. For PSC motors: Locate the blower capacitor. If the top is bulged or leaking, it should be replaced with the same µF and voltage rating.
When to call a professional: ECM motor or control board diagnosis and replacement should be done by an HVAC technician, as programming and proper wiring are required.
