Possible Causes
Open-circuit room NTC sensor, Shorted room NTC sensor, Loose or oxidized sensor connector on indoor PCB, Failed indoor main PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the air conditioner with the remote, then switch off the circuit breaker or unplug the unit before removing any covers. Wait several minutes for capacitors to discharge.
Steps to check and correct:
- Power reset: Turn power off for 5–10 minutes, then restore power and try again. Sometimes E1 is a temporary sensor reading error.
- Access the indoor sensor: Open the front panel of the Gorenje indoor unit, remove the air filters, and locate the small thermistor (NTC) clipped near the evaporator coil or in the return air stream, connected by two thin wires to the PCB.
- Check connections: Ensure the sensor plug is fully seated on the indoor PCB and that there is no corrosion or broken wire. Reseat the connector several times to clean contacts.
- Inspect the sensor: Look for damage to the sensor head or insulation. If the sensor is loose from its clip, reattach it firmly to the designated bracket or coil area.
- Test or replace: If you have a multimeter, measure the sensor resistance at room temperature and compare with Gorenje service data (typically 5–20 kΩ at 25°C depending on model). If open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the room temperature sensor (NTC).
- If E1 persists: After replacing the sensor, clear the error by disconnecting power for several minutes. If the code returns, the indoor main PCB sensor circuit may be defective and should be diagnosed or replaced by a qualified technician.
