Possible Causes
Normal automatic defrost operation, Outdoor coil heavily frosted due to low ambient and humidity, Faulty defrost sensor or algorithm if H1 persists excessively
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: On many Gorenje heat pump models, H1 is an informational code indicating defrost mode, not a fault.
Steps:
- Observe duration: Defrost cycles typically last 5–15 minutes. The indoor fan may stop to prevent cold drafts.
- Check outdoor unit: Inspect the outdoor coil for heavy ice buildup. If completely encased in ice, airflow or defrost issues may exist.
- Ensure drainage: Make sure melt water can drain away from the outdoor unit and is not refreezing around the base.
- Clean coil and surroundings: Remove debris and ensure good airflow.
- If H1 is constant: If the unit stays in defrost or frequently cycles, a technician should check defrost sensors and control logic.
