Possible Causes
Very dirty air filters, Blocked return or supply air, Low indoor fan speed with low load, Low refrigerant charge, Faulty evaporator sensor or control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not chip ice with sharp objects; this can damage the coil.
Steps:
- Turn off cooling: Switch the unit to Fan mode only to melt the ice.
- Clean filters and coil: After ice melts, clean filters and inspect the coil for dirt.
- Check airflow: Ensure furniture or curtains are not blocking the indoor unit.
- Adjust settings: Avoid setting the temperature extremely low for long periods; use a moderate setpoint.
- Technician check: If icing recurs, have a technician check refrigerant charge and sensor operation.
