Possible Causes
Stuck reversing valve coil (heat pump models), Incorrect mode command from PCB, Faulty main control PCB, Wiring fault to reversing valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. The reversing valve is part of the sealed refrigeration system; do not open refrigerant lines.
- Step 1 – Reset control: Turn off power for 10 minutes, then restore and try switching between cooling and heating modes.
- Step 2 – Listen for valve shift: When changing from cool to heat, listen near the outdoor unit for a distinct click or whoosh from the reversing valve. No sound may indicate a coil or control issue.
- Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Check the wiring harness from the outdoor PCB to the reversing valve coil. Ensure connectors are tight and wires are not damaged.
- Step 4 – Coil resistance check (advanced): With power off and coil disconnected, measure coil resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed coil that must be replaced.
- Step 5 – PCB evaluation: If the coil is good but not being energized in the correct mode, the outdoor PCB may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
