Possible Causes
Blocked air intake or exhaust (portable units), Dirty condenser coil, Failed condenser fan motor, High ambient temperature exceeding design limits
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before inspection.
- Step 1 – Check airflow: Ensure that the intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked. For portable Sencor units, verify the exhaust hose is fully extended, not kinked, and properly vented outside.
- Step 2 – Clean condenser: Remove the rear panel and gently vacuum dust from the condenser fins. Do not bend the fins; use a soft brush.
- Step 3 – Verify fan operation: Restore power and run the unit. Confirm that both indoor and condenser fans start and run smoothly. If the rear fan does not run, the condenser fan motor or its capacitor may be faulty.
- Step 4 – Reduce load: Close windows and doors, use blinds to reduce solar gain, and avoid running other high-heat appliances in the same room.
- Step 5 – Component replacement: If E8 recurs and the condenser fan is not operating correctly, replace the condenser fan motor and any associated capacitor.
