Possible Causes
Warped basket or pan from overheating,Food debris in rails or latch,Deformed housing rails,Loose or bent latch mechanism
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the unit to cool before forcing the basket. Do not use excessive force that could break the latch.
Step-by-step checks:
- Inspect rails and sides: Remove the basket and pan. Check the side rails inside the housing for baked-on grease or food. Clean thoroughly.
- Check basket shape: Place the basket on a flat surface to see if it rocks or appears warped. Warping can occur from dishwasher heat or broiling.
- Examine latch: Inspect the front latch mechanism for bent metal or broken plastic. Ensure it moves freely.
- Light lubrication: If rails are clean but still rough, you can very lightly rub a dry silicone-safe lubricant on the metal rails (avoid food-contact surfaces).
- Replace damaged parts: If the basket or rails are visibly deformed, replace the basket/pan assembly or the outer housing if available.
When to stop: Do not force a jammed basket; this can damage the safety switch and housing. Replace warped components as needed.
