Possible Causes

Overheated suction motor, Open motor winding, Faulty motor thermal protector, Loose motor wiring connector on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the carpet cleaner from mains power before opening any panels.

  • Allow motor to cool: If the unit was used for an extended period, let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Some Rowenta motors have a self-resetting thermal protector that will reset when cool.
  • Check for blockages: Remove the dirty water tank, hose, and floor nozzle. Inspect for clogs in the suction path that could cause motor overload. Clear any debris, hair, or carpet fibers.
  • Inspect motor wiring: Access the motor compartment (usually from the underside or rear). Verify that the motor spade connectors are firmly attached and that the harness from the main control PCB is not loose or burnt.
  • Test motor windings: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed motor or thermal protector. If the thermal protector is separate, test it individually for continuity.
  • Replace components as needed: If the motor or thermal protector is open, replace the suction motor assembly or thermal cut-out according to Rowenta part specifications.
