VAX Platinum Restricted Suction Path / Air Leak

Carpet cleaner powers on but has very weak suction at the floorhead

Possible Causes

Blocked nozzle or suction channel, Dirty or saturated motor filter, Poorly seated dirty water tank, Cracked or leaking suction hose

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine before removing parts or checking for blockages.

  • Check dirty water tank seal: Remove and refit the dirty water tank, ensuring the rubber gasket around the suction inlet is clean and undamaged. Wipe away debris and reseat firmly until it clicks.
  • Inspect nozzle and suction channel: Remove the floorhead nozzle (if detachable) and look for lint, pet hair, or carpet fibres blocking the opening. Use a long brush or flexible rod to clear the channel.
  • Clean filters: Remove the motor pre-filter and any exhaust filters. Tap off dust and rinse washable filters under lukewarm water. Allow to dry completely before refitting.
  • Check hose and tools: Detach the hose and run water through it in a sink to dislodge clogs. Inspect for splits or cracks that could cause air leaks; replace if damaged.
  • Test suction at inlet: With tanks removed and hose off, briefly power on and feel suction directly at the machine inlet (if accessible). Strong suction here but weak at the floorhead indicates a blockage or leak in the hose or nozzle.
