Possible Causes

Brushbar jammed with hair or debris, Blocked suction path causing motor overload, Faulty motor thermal protector, Worn motor brushes (on brushed motor versions)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the carpet cleaner before clearing any jams or opening access panels.

  • Check brushbar for jams: Lay the machine on its side. Remove the brushbar access cover (usually secured with clips or screws). Cut away hair, threads, and carpet fibres wrapped around the brushbar and end caps. Ensure the brushbar spins freely by hand.
  • Clear suction path: Remove the dirty water tank and check the inlet port for clogs. Inspect the nozzle, hose, and any removable suction channels for blockages. Rinse with warm water and allow to dry.
  • Clean filters: Locate the motor pre-filter (often behind a grille or under the dirty water tank). Remove and rinse under lukewarm water until clear. Allow to dry completely (at least 24 hours) before refitting.
  • Cool-down period: If the machine stopped mid-use, the motor thermal protector may have tripped. Leave the unit unplugged for 45–60 minutes to cool fully, then test again.
  • Persistent E2: If the brushbar and airflow are clear but the error returns immediately, the motor or thermal protector may be failing. At this point, motor replacement is recommended via an authorised VAX technician.
