Possible Causes
Stuck float in dirty water tank lid, Blocked air path in dirty water tank, Faulty tank full sensor switch, Mis-seated dirty water tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the carpet cleaner before removing tanks.
- Empty and clean dirty water tank: Remove the dirty water tank and empty it completely. Rinse the tank and lid with warm water, paying special attention to the float mechanism (usually a plastic piece that moves up and down).
- Free the float: Check that the float moves freely when you tilt the lid. If it is stuck with dried detergent or debris, soak the lid in warm soapy water and gently clean until it moves smoothly.
- Check tank seating: Refit the dirty water tank, ensuring it clicks fully into place and the lid is properly aligned. An incorrectly seated tank can falsely trigger the full sensor.
- Inspect air path: Make sure the air inlet and outlet ports on the tank are not blocked. Clear any lint or carpet fibres.
- Persistent E5: If the indicator still shows full with an empty, clean tank, the internal tank full sensor or microswitch may be faulty. This requires opening the body and testing the switch with a meter; contact a technician if you are not experienced with electrical diagnostics.
