Possible Causes

Blown mains fuse in plug, Faulty power cord or plug, Failed main on/off switch, Defective main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Zanussi carpet cleaner from the wall socket before any inspection. Never work on a live appliance.

  • Check wall outlet and fuse: Test the outlet with another appliance. Remove the plug fuse and inspect/replace with the correct rating (usually 13A in UK-style plugs).
  • Inspect power cord: Look for cuts, kinks, or burn marks along the Zanussi power cable. If damaged, the entire cord set must be replaced; do not tape over damage.
  • Test the on/off switch: With the unit unplugged, remove the top housing (usually Torx or Phillips screws under the tank and handle). Use a multimeter to check continuity across the main power switch when set to ON. Replace the switch if open circuit.
  • Check control PCB: Locate the main control PCB near the handle or base. Look for burnt components or cracked solder joints. If the board is visibly damaged or has no output voltage when powered (this test should be done only by a qualified person), replace the main control PCB.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit all covers, ensure the recovery and solution tanks are correctly seated, then plug in and test.
