Possible Causes

Failed suction motor, Blocked suction path causing motor overload, Faulty motor capacitor, Burnt motor windings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect from mains before any disassembly.

  • Check tanks and seals: Ensure the dirty water (recovery) tank and clean solution tank are correctly seated on the Zanussi base. Misaligned tanks can break the suction seal.
  • Inspect for blockages: Remove the hose, floor nozzle, and wand (if fitted). Check for clogs in the hose, inlet port, and recovery tank inlet. Use a flexible brush or compressed air to clear obstructions.
  • Listen to the motor: Plug in and briefly switch on. If the motor hums but does not spin, the start capacitor may be faulty. If there is a burning smell or no sound at all, the motor may be burnt out.
  • Access the suction motor: Unplug, remove the outer casing screws, and locate the suction motor unit. Inspect for soot, melted plastic, or burnt smell. Check the motor capacitor (if fitted) for bulging or leakage and replace if defective.
  • Replace motor if needed: If the motor windings are open or the motor is seized, replace the complete suction motor assembly with a Zanussi-compatible unit. Reassemble and test for normal suction.
