Possible Causes
Thermostat out of calibration, Scale on heating block reducing heat transfer, Faulty temperature sensor, Control board limiting heater output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use caution when testing temperature; hot coffee can scald.
- Preheat carafe: Rinse the carafe with hot tap water before brewing to reduce heat loss.
- Descale the machine: Run a full descale cycle with a 1:1 vinegar and water solution to remove scale that insulates the heating block.
- Check brew size: Very small brew volumes can cool quickly; test with a full pot.
- Measure temperature: If possible, measure the coffee temperature immediately after brewing. It should typically be around 175–185°F (79–85°C). Significantly lower temperatures indicate a heating issue.
- If still too cool: The thermostat, thermistor, or control board may be faulty and require professional replacement.
