Possible Causes
Open or shorted thermistor on heating block, Loose thermistor wiring harness, Overheated thermal block, Failed main control board temperature circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow at least 30 minutes for the internal heater and hot plate to cool before inspection.
- Power reset: With the unit unplugged, wait 5 minutes, then plug it back in and attempt a brew cycle. Sometimes transient sensor errors clear with a reset.
- Check for overheating signs: Smell for burnt odors and look for discoloration around the bottom or rear of the unit. If you see melting or scorch marks, do not use the machine.
- Ventilation: Ensure the coffee maker is not pushed tightly against a wall or under a low cabinet that traps heat. Provide at least a few inches of clearance around the unit and retry.
- If E02 returns immediately: The thermistor attached to the stainless-steel heating block or the control board’s temperature circuit is likely defective. This requires opening the housing, which exposes live wiring.
- Professional service recommended: Because accessing and replacing the thermistor or control board involves mains voltage and sealed components, contact a professional technician or Calphalon service center.
