Possible Causes

Carafe not fully seated on warming plate, Drip-stop lever not fully open, Brew basket not latched, Faulty carafe presence microswitch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before reaching under the brew basket or around the warming plate.

  • Check carafe position: Slide the glass or thermal carafe fully back so it is centered on the warming plate. Some Calphalon models use a carafe presence switch under the plate that must be depressed.
  • Inspect drip-stop mechanism: Open the top lid and remove the brew basket. Verify the spring-loaded drip-stop plunger moves freely and is not jammed with coffee grounds. Rinse the basket and plunger thoroughly.
  • Reinstall brew basket: Insert the basket so it sits flat and the handle aligns correctly. Close the lid firmly until it clicks.
  • Test without coffee: With an empty basket and carafe in place, plug the unit back in and start a small brew cycle. If it runs, the issue was mechanical alignment.
  • If E05 remains: The carafe or basket microswitch may be defective or misaligned inside the housing. This requires disassembly to adjust or replace the switch; seek professional service.
